Effective Communication And Communication Barriers: Reflective Journal

Communication is the deliberate act of sharing meanings. It is done by using signs, images and semiotic rules to communicate. Communication is an interaction method with groups or individuals. Oral communication, nonverbal communication, and written communication are all types of communications. In the 21stcentury, communication has become increasingly sophisticated.

Communication is two-way and a means to connect people, allowing them to share their opinions, thoughts, feelings, or data. The recipient is required to decode the message and then confirm receipt by using an agreed feedback method. Communication is defined in this way. Communication is classified into four categories: shapes, media, different types, and mediums. Communication is fundamental to the advancement of humanity. Communication is the most common human activity. Successful leaders and managers, whether they are directors, lawyers, therapists, social workers or bookkeepers. They can also work with other people in a consistent, adaptable and intentional way. Communication that is compelling helps to achieve the desired result. Communication that is effective and competent allows people to build relationships and create connections. Ineffective communicators, on the other hand, create barriers for themselves. Capable Communication is our ability to interact with and influence others. Communication aptitudes and quality are also indicators of the ability to communicate.

While I was in India, in 2012, I became aware of how important communication is. I was selected for the position of head of the art club in my last year at secondary. I was selected to be the leader of a club that had members who were also students. I’ve always been apprehensive about public speaking and the idea of leading 20 students was terrifying. In the first group meeting, I felt a little nervous and stumbled during my introductory remarks. Anjana, my teacher, told me that I should overcome this communication problem and motivated me. Then, I began to regularly practice my communication skills. I worked on my grammar, vocabulary and vocal delivery. Over time, I became more confident and able communicate effectively. Communication isn’t only about the ability to speak, it’s also a means of understanding. It is difficult for people to reach this small but important goal of effectively communicating. Nothing is impossible to a person who is determined. I then began to participate actively in morning assemblies and conduct meetings. I became a member the annual fete comittee. These small but important activities taught me how to overcome my insecurities and helped me learn valuable lessons in managing groups and activities and, most importantly, communication. Communication was essential to my success as the leader of a creative group. Every activity was a communication-intensive process, starting with the idea, then explaining it the committee. Then, it had to be put on paper and explained to the teacher. These activities could not have taken place without effective communication. In every case, I was required to communicate informally or formally. There have been conflicts among committee members about an idea or event. However, by using good communication skills we were able to resolve all of these conflicts. Communication was a valuable skill that I learned early on in life. Communication has become a part of my life and has allowed me to gain valuable insights.

I studied commerce at the International College for Girls Jaipur. I initially found it very difficult to communicate with other people. Because I grew up in a small community and was not gregarious, a change of direction was needed. A diploma in event planning was an option I chose. I became friends with several people and joined a group that shared similar interests. My graduation diploma helped me develop good interpersonal relationships. I also learned how to work with a group. The sheer number of group projects and assignments during my graduation made me communicate with my classmates a lot. In the past three years, I have become a completely different person. Communication was the only way I could build a good relationship with many of my friends and create lasting friendships. I needed this to get through my college days. In college, i developed relationships with teachers and dean. My teachers were very happy with me because I took the initiative to do so. Communication helps build good relationships. When people from different cultures use slang and words to communicate, they create a communication barrier. The message is misinterpreted. It was also a completely new experience to be away from my family. Even though it was hard to make friends and adapt to a whole new culture, I did manage. The hostel experience was not without its challenges. I shared a room with Shreya in a paying-guest cum hostel. There were also 10 seniors from our year and 20 seniors. The second year was when the seniors all left and we were among the senior students of the hostel, but I was still the most popular one amongst juniors. The communication skills I had allowed me to make friends from all walks of life. The people I met in Jaipur not only helped me to get around, but also with my tasks and assignments. Extroverts are required. The only way to understand someone is when they speak. Communication is essential to communicate one’s thoughts and ideas to others. Communication is essential to establishing a lasting human relationship.

I wanted to get my masters after graduating from a college that was renowned abroad. I began researching different colleges. I told my friends what I learned about colleges and degrees. The task was time-consuming. I had many different institutions to consult and organizations to visit. I was then introduced to various universities located in Singapore. It was my dream to study in Singapore. My parents agreed to help me with my studies after I persuaded them of the advantages of studying in Singapore. I enquired and researched the courses offered by James Cook University. I decided that I would enroll at the University. From a small village to a city of two tiers and then to a university in India was a long journey. It was an entirely new experience since I was dealing only with people in India in my graduate program. But in Singapore, I dealt with people all over the world. In Singapore, my new flatmates and I moved together. We rented a flat together as a group of four. Communication was again crucial in leasing the apartment. Communication was key to me convincing them to accept me into their group. I was able to adjust easily to my new friendships because of my communication skills.

It is difficult to move to a new location and meet new people. People living away must be extroverts to get along with others and maintain a social life.

This subject was very beneficial and interesting. This subject was very much about communication. Group Presentations added to the importance of effective communication. The group presentation was a great way to learn more about effective communication. Communication was hindered by several barriers. It was necessary to eliminate this in order to be able work effectively. We learned about the different dimensions of communication style in our lecture on “Dominance and Socialability continuum”. The group was a very social group. The group was helped by this because everyone had a high level of social skills.

In five years, with all the knowledge that I have acquired I hope to become a manager or leader who can apply this theory of communication in the real world. I’d like the decision making process to be effective. As a leader, I think I must have certain qualities like assertiveness, emotional stabilty, and the capability to handle difficult situations. Effective communication is the key to all of these attributes. A manager should be able motivating employees to maximize their productivity and efficiency. Effective communication is required. I can categorize employees using different communication styles and treat them accordingly. Managers are primarily concerned with reducing chaos, ensuring smooth work flow and making good decisions. Communication is key to developing good interpersonal relationships and subordinate relations.

This journal helped me understand the concept of effective communication. This journal has taught me how to communicate effectively and helped me face new experiences. Also, I learned different aspects about myself that could make me more expressive. It helped me understand myself. This journal of reflection showed me that small communication experiences can lead to profound understanding. It not only illuminates the present, but it also creates a solid foundation for our future. It may be reflective, emotive, directive, or supportive. But it can help us assess our strengths in various situations. Communication can be effective for people who put in the effort. In the modern world, mobile phones, tablets, and PCs are all commonplace. Communication is becoming easier, faster and more global. Facebook and Skype, among other tools, have been a valuable tool in keeping up with 21st-century pace.
